In the position of Honorary Consul of the Republic of South Africa in Ho Chi Minh City, Madam Do Lien has had 10 years of successful diplomatic activities and made bold marks in promoting friendly relations between Vietnam and South Africa.
The South African Consulate Office in Ho Chi Minh City has been established by Madam Do Lien since 2009 in order to assist hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese citizens in applying for South Africa visa; South African citizens living in Vietnam with administrative procedures, along with other orientation activities to help them get acquaint and integrate into Vietnam quickly and effectively.
In addition, the South African Consulate Office in Ho Chi Minh City organized hundreds of seminars on economic, trade and tourism promotion; welcoming dozens of South African enterprises to get a better understanding of Vietnamese market while supported Vietnamese enterprises to learn about South Africa market. These activities have contributed to the total bilateral trade turnover Vietnam – South Africa increased more than five-fold from $ 189 million in late 2007 to 1.1 billion USD in late 2018, aims to USD 2 billion in next 5 year.
Assessments, recognizing Madam Do Lien’s role from the Government of South Africa:
o Mr. Ratubasi Super Moloi – Former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Africa in Vietnam (term 2009-2013): “When I interviewed Madam Lien, I realized that her language skills were the weakest among the candidates, I thought it was her disadvantage. However, after a dialogue, I affirmed that Madam Lien was a daring, perfectionist and passionate woman. She has the ability to persuade anyone when she touches and possesses a love for South Africa. I was really impressed with her method of running the business as well as the many prestigious awards that she was awarded. The South African government will forever appreciate and be grateful to have an honorary Consul like Madam Lien. I personally really want to congratulate and hope she knows that we are always very proud of her. ”
o Mrs. Kgomotso Ruth Magau – Former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Africa in Vietnam (term 2013-2017) I want to emphasize Madam Lien’s great contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between South Africa and Vietnam. She always willing to support the work of the Embassy in Hanoi by ensuring that the Embassy is always informed of events that need special attention and regularly supports our team in the process of resolving arising incidents”.
o Mr. Mpetjane Kgaogelo Lekgoro – Current Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Africa in Vietnam: “With contributions in promoting cooperative relations between the Republic of South Africa and Vietnam through the initiation and organization of many exchange programs, support activities, connections and trade promotion between the two During the past 10 years, Madam Do Thi Kim Lien is the model ambassador for the South African country in Vietnam and Vietnam in South Africa ”.
In 2018, the Government of South Africa sent a commendation letter to Madam Do Lien for her active contributions to the promotion of South Africa image in Vietnam.
